Why Jeff Sessions decision is bad for Donald Trump- by a Trump Supporter

Share

Donald J.Trump is the first president that has made me proud to be an American. I was a child of the 90s I grew up under the Bush dynasty. I voted for Obama his first term as a backlash against the neoconservative globalist agenda. Obama then proved to be a globalist operative as well and pushed me into the libertarian camp as i became disillusioned. …And i like to smoke marijuana. I think my story is common in Trumps base which is why this decision by Jeff Sessions is more detrimental to Trump than a benefit.

Trump has been winning over leftists who are becoming increasingly aware of the radicalism that has overtaken the left side of the political spectrum. Imagine if that momentum had continued with Sessions properly scheduling marijuana. Sessions is pushing it off to congress to change the law as Attorney Generals traditionally do.

But the Attorney General does in fact have the legal authority to schedule, reschedule and unschedule substances without the intervention of congress. The Controlled Substances Act clearly states in subsection B the authority of the AG in regards to scheduling when it states:

“The Attorney General shall, before initiating proceedings…to control a drug or other substance or to remove a drug or other substance entirely from the schedules, and after gathering the necessary data, request from the Secretary a scientific and medical evaluation, and his recommendations, as to whether such drug or other substance should be so controlled or removed as a controlled substance”
It goes on to say
“If the Attorney General determines that these facts…warrant control or substantial evidence that the drug…should be removed entirely from the schedules, he shall initiate proceedings for control or removal…”

Marijuana is currently scheduled 1 alongside heroin, cocaine, and LSD (which also should be rescheduled). Schedule one drugs are drugs deemed to have high abuse potential, no medical use, and severe safety concerns.

However if marijuana has no medical use then why does the federal governments own Patent6630507 which states in its abstract that:
“Cannabinoids have been found to have antioxidant properties… This new-found property makes cannabinoids useful in the treatment… of wide variety of oxidation associated diseases, such as ischemic, age-related, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases” It goes on to name cannabis to have a “Particular application as neuroprotectants… in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and HIV dementia.

During the campaign trail Trump claimed that legal recreational marijuana should be left up to the states and stated he is a supporter of legal medical marijuana.

*What we would really like to see is Sessions step up to the plate and reschedule marijuana appropriately. If he wont do it maybe Trey Gowdy would suit the position better.

On the one hand Sessions has reopened the investigation into Hillary Clinton and Huma Abedins email fiasco. On the other hand he has realls ostracized a huge part of Trumps constituency which is very libertarian leaning.
